Located at the intersection of Nanjing Road and the Bund, Shanghai’s famous boulevard, The Swatch Art Peace Hotel, a new concept developed by Nick Hayek, chairman of the Swatch Group, in partnership with Jing Jiang Group and YTL Hotels (for marketing), has opened in spring 2011 in the South Building (formerly the Palace Hotel opened in 1908).
This historic building completely renovated, Victorian facades, is considered as a cultural monument under a specific protected status. In 1909 the first International Opium Commission was held here. In 1927 Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling celebrated their engagement. Behind its red and white walls, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel, offers exclusive workshops-apartments (for 6 months maximum) to artists coming from all over the world, selected by an international committee, with the willing to make from this place, a major center for contemporary art.
The fourth floor is reserved for hotel guests with seven rooms and suites from 40 to 250 m² (Peace, Happiness, Prosperity, Good Fortune, Cheerful, and Wondrous Joyful), whose beautiful surroundings were designed by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku ( Paris). Emotion is at the rendezvous. The top two floors (5th & 6th) are reserved for the restaurant Shock!, The Gallery (banquet hall), « The Swatch Peace Hotel Terrace » and 3 private lounges facing the Bund and Pudong riverside.
The restaurant Shook! invites you to a fine gourmet travel to discover Southeast Chinese, Western, Japanese and Chinese flavors, proposed by the talented chef Brian Chan: « Dancing Prawns » ou « Pan-fried Scallops and Goose Liver with a sweet Sauternes like Château d’Yquem ». On Ground floor, The Swatch Art Peace Hotel is dedicated to shops watches representing Swatch group four major brands: Breguet, Omega, Blancpain and Swatch.
